People XP in Save the World: What It Is and How It Works

People XP in Save the World is the shared roster upgrade currency used for Heroes, Survivors and Defenders. Epic introduced it in v40.00 by combining the old Hero XP and Survivor XP systems, so returning players may see older guides naming currencies that no longer appear separately in the current menus.

The change makes roster levelling easier to understand, but it also means several parts of your collection draw from the same balance. A big Survivor upgrade session can leave less XP for Heroes, while levelling several Heroes can delay the next batch of Survivor improvements.

People XP in Save the World is spent when you level a Hero, Survivor or Defender. Open the relevant section under Command, choose the item you want to improve, then use Upgrade/Inspect and Level Up. The screen shows the cost before you confirm it.

Unlike evolution materials, People XP in Save the World handles ordinary roster levels. Reaching a new evolution stage can still require campaign progress and materials such as Pure Drops of Rain, Lightning in a Bottle, Eye of the Storm or Storm Shard, depending on the upgrade.

How to get and use People XP in Save the World

Mission and quest rewards are regular sources of People XP in Save the World. The exact amounts vary with the activity and progression, so check current reward icons rather than relying on an old fixed farming route. The live mission data on SaveTheWorldDB is useful when you want to compare available account-resource rewards.

Auto Level can also spend People XP in Save the World automatically. With that setting enabled, the game applies XP to Heroes and Defenders in the active loadout and to Survivors assigned to squads. Turning Auto Level off leaves the balance for you to spend manually.

What replaced Hero XP and Survivor XP?

The simplest answer is People XP in Save the World. If an older video tells you to farm Hero XP or Survivor XP, the current equivalent for ordinary roster levelling is the shared People XP balance. The underlying reasons to level a good Hero or a strong Survivor still matter even though the currency name changed.

Because People XP in Save the World is shared, upgrade the pieces that produce a clear benefit first. For Survivors, that usually means strong cards that fit active squads. For Heroes, prioritise the loadouts you actually play instead of spending heavily on every card just because it is available.

How People XP fits into Power Level progression

Survivor upgrades are closely tied to account strength, so pair this system with the Survivor Squads guide and Power Level guide. Those pages explain why the same amount of roster XP can produce very different results depending on where you spend it.

A shared pool is simpler than two separate currencies, but it rewards a little planning. Keep a reserve when you know a better Lead, support Survivor or Hero is likely to replace something soon, and avoid emptying the balance on cards that are only temporary fillers.

Planning your shared XP pool

Because the roster now shares one XP pool, spending decisions are easier to see but more important to plan. A new Hero, Defender or Survivor can draw from the same balance you were saving for another upgrade. Early on, the safest approach is to strengthen the characters and squad members you are actively using, then keep a reserve for replacements that provide a clear improvement. Evolution materials remain separate, so a large XP balance does not remove those later upgrade requirements.

Epic explains the current People XP and roster upgrade system on its Save the World progression support page.
